Patient Story

A Second Chance at Life After a Severe Infection
Story: "When my father was transferred to the KMC ICU with septic shock, we were terrified. The intensivist sat with us and clearly explained the situation and the treatment plan. For two weeks, the team was phenomenal. They not only used incredible technology to support his organs, but they treated him with dignity, updated us multiple times a day, and even supported our family's emotional needs. Seeing him recover from a ventilator and walk out of the hospital was a miracle we owe to the skill and dedication of the entire ICU team." – The F. Family, Jbeil

Common Questions

1. What is the difference between a regular hospital floor and the ICU?

The Intensive Care Unit is a specialized department for patients who are critically ill and require constant, close monitoring and support for failing organ systems. This includes more frequent vital sign checks, advanced life support machines (like ventilators and dialysis), and a much higher nurse-to-patient ratio (typically 1:1 or 1:2) compared to a regular floor.

2. What are the visiting hours, and why are they sometimes restricted?

We understand the importance of family presence. Our visiting policy is designed to balance family involvement with our primary goal: patient safety and recovery. Hours may be structured to allow for essential nursing care, procedures, and patient rest periods. Our team will communicate the specific policy and any temporary changes directly with you. We are committed to providing regular updates by phone and in-person when visiting is not possible to ensure you remain informed and involved in your loved one's care.
